God is in Control

Do things sometimes feel out of control? Try as we might there are many things that we have little to no control over. That is why we often struggle with concepts of faith like what is mentioned in Psalm 46:10.  " Be still, and KNOW that I am God..." (Emphasis mine).

In a world that seems to be accelerating by the day it is hard to just be still. For many of us it feels as if we are deciding not to try anymore. But in fact we are really just giving control over to God whose ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:8-9).

Back in the early 90's I spent several months working in the mountain nation of Nepal. The country had just "opened" and the terrain outside of the capitol was at times treacherous. I rode the bus many times or took a motorcycle to get to my appointed destinations.

I had the adventure of my life riding my rented Honda 250XL through the Himalayan foothills. However, I was often  grateful for the skill and expertise of the drivers and their ability to handle the treacherous roads when I rode the buses.

These drivers had control of the situation and I didn't. Strangely enough I had a peace because of their knowledge and skills which I didn't have. This is what we have to do with the Lord. We need to give him control of the situations we face that are beyond our understanding and ability.

Proverbs 3: 5-6 "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him and He will make your paths straight."

Here is a great truth. "Those who leave everything in God's hand will eventually see God's hand in everything."

Many things can seem out of control in our lives. Some of these might be personal issues, family issues, cultural issues, or global issues. If something or someone is causing you to be anxious I encourage you to be still before God and give it to Him for his yoke is easy and his burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30).
